Rock Ed North Leg
Let me introduce to you Rock Ed Team Solano, composed of four people, namely PJ, Gang, Mike and Beng, who went to four provinces in the span of seven days.
Day 1
We finally reached Tuguegarao around 8am. Having spent 8 hours (napakahusay kasi ni Mang Joe Schumacher magmaneho), cramped in a van, we spent most of the day in bed. As a Team Lestat (also comprised of Team Solano only with more Rock Ed people) custom, we were up at night to conduct a class at a bar called Traffic Jam with Noel Cabangon.
Day 2
Early morning, we find ourselves among the 3rd and 4th year high school students of Cagayan High School. That day, they heard something that they probably never or have not heard for a long time. Mike said it best: "Magkaroon ng tamang angas." As Filipinos, we can be proud of so many things that is inherent in us, as individuals and as a nation. And that while it takes courage to say that you are good at something and volunteer, it is also rewarding.
Day 3
Housed in a lovely place in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya. We met up with the Rotary Club of Nueva Vizcaya that evening. Do we see a medical mission soon?
Day 4
I got sick with fever and I wasn't able to join the rest of the team when they visited the Bascaran Elementary School in Nueva Vizcaya. :(
Day 5
We sadly left Solano and packed our gear for Santiago, Isabela. University of Lasalette was a blast. The students were highly energized. It was a mini concert with bands and dancers from their very own school. The crowd was not only wowed by their homegrown talents but from Gang as well as she sang "Hand in my pocket".
The following day, we were bombarded with text messages saying how much they enjoyed the Rock Ed Session at their school and that they have never felt the school so united.
Day 6
Nagtipunan was our final stop. We delivered the books donated for the school in Nagtipunan, Quirino. It was here that I met four shy kids who were tentative to take some the books we brought. But after a few minutes of talking with Faith, Shyreen and Blessie, they soon got out of their shells and were enjoying a book each.
Leaving that place, I knew that the books will be much appreciated by the children of that town.
Day 7
If God rested on the seventh day, so did we. We visited Cagayan River. Our walk to the river gave us a better view of the beauty of Sierra Madre. I am glad that it has remained beautiful.
Having waded/swam in the river (the brave souls who did this without malaria shots!), we once again found ourselves in the van. It was a long trip for home. But as we said "Buh-bye mawntens", I knew that we were ready to go home.
It was a successful mission. We couldn't have done it however without our friends who have provided transportation, accommodations and food. Mabuhay kayo at binuhay niyo kami sa aming pagtahi ng norte.
Kelan naman ang south? Game?
